The Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament Society was founded in September, 1964, in fond memory of Independent India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The idea of this All India Tournament was incorporated by one of South India’s most reputed industrialists, Shri Inder Mohan Kapur Ji. He is regarded as the society’s Founding Father. Shri I.M. Kapur also donated the first cups of the tournament, ‘The Nehru Gold Cup’ and ‘The Nehru Silver Cup’. Along with him, the founding members were Shri H.C. Sarin and Shri Sayed Hamid.
